Isis Canoe Club, based in Oxford, is a small but expanding club welcoming both experienced
canoeists and beginners. We undertake a wide variety
of activities from pleasant backwater trips around Oxford to sea kayaking, whitewater, marathon
and canoe camping both in the UK and abroad. The club is affiliated to the
British Canoe Union and the
Open Canoe Association.
We run BCU courses in the summer and have an ongoing programme
of instructor training.
There are summer coaching sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Most weekends have at least one activity organised and there are often informal paddles organised by members. Canoeing continues in the winter (for the hardy and well equipped).
We support the local community, leading one-off sessions for scouts, including Aqua Camp,
Guides, Brownies and University groups. We also lead Duke of Edinburgh training and expeditions.
Isis is supporting a river sports development in the Donnington Bridge area which has already gained the support of Sports England and the local councils for Lottery funding, which would give us a permanent and secure home. We currently rent storage at the 22nd Oxford Sea Scouts, where we share facilities.
