Isis Canoe Club, based in Oxford, is a small but expanding club welcoming both experienced paddlers
and beginners. We undertake a wide variety of activities from pleasant backwater trips around
Oxford to whitewater, sea kayaking, marathon and canoe camping both in the UK and abroad. The club
is affiliated to the British Canoe Union and
the Open Canoe Association. We run a variety of BCU
courses throughout the summer and have an ongoing programme of instructor training. Our courses
aim to develop paddlers to their desired level, and we support our more enthusiastic members by
encouraging them to challenge themselves on whitewater.
We organise social activities most weekends, including barbeques, fancy dress paddles, informal paddles to local pubs and night paddles. Once qualified, our members are encouraged to organise their own trips, including during the winter (for the hardy and well equipped).
We support the local community, leading one-off sessions for scouts, including Aqua Camp,
Guides, Brownies and University groups. We also lead Duke of Edinburgh training and expeditions.
Isis is supporting a river sports development in the Donnington Bridge area which has already gained the support of Sports England and the local councils for Lottery funding, which would give us a permanent and secure home. We currently rent storage at the 22nd Oxford Sea Scouts, where we share facilities.
