The Sandford Loop

On last Thursday's outing, we decided to forgo the mid paddle pub stop and do a slightly longer trip. This involved looping round and up to Sandford. We had to get out and carry our kayaks a couple of times, on the first occasion, cutting the corner of a field, much to the delight of two local ponies for whom it was obviously the highlight of the week.

There were an amazing number of kingfishers out and about. We spotted at least four and got up really quite close to two before they flew off side by side. On a sadder note, we also passed a Canadian goose on the home straight which had got caught up in a fisherman's line. At first it looked like it had swallowed the bait but in fact the hook had snagged its leg. There was not much we could do unfortunately and it calmed down considerably once the line was cut. Apart from that though, a very nice trip.
