Isis Source
Dates
What is Isis Source?
Isis Source is a club, within Isis Canoe Club, designed for 8-18 year olds who
want some excitement on the rivers, lakes and seas; with a good chance of getting wet!
While mainly kayaking, the experiences and training will be across a range of craft
including white water kayaks, racing kayaks, sea kayaks, Canadian canoes and touring canoes.
Coaches
All coaches are "British Canoe Union" trained and qualified and therefore insured.
Where do we paddle?
For pleasure paddling, the River Thames and River Cherwell offer a range of exciting trips
and varied experiences. We play a wide variety of games, go on local trips to play areas
such as Dead Man's Weir, and paddle far-a-field to Longdrop Weir on mystery tours.

Hinksey Weir offers some white water training when the water is flowing after heavy rainfall.
We go on day trips to Alcatraz Rock, on the river Wye in Wales, where we can sit and admire
passing boats while having a peaceful picnic high above them, enjoying a well earned rest
ready for 'The Rock' - one of the highest seal launches where you can pose for the passing
cruise passengers and tourists on the beach opposite. The intrepid traveller can go onward
to Symonds Yat Rapid to experience real white Isis Streamwater...sometimes.
The River Nene White Water Centre, to the east of Northampton, offers great training grounds
for the more experienced paddler who wants to practice strokes and train on a safe closed river.
This is a man-made rapid that can test the most skilful paddler. Visitors can also walk the
course and finish with burgers and a cup of tea.
How can you help?
Parents are invited to come along on trips, to help out and look after their little ones
(or big ones). You can camp with us, go cycling, shopping, touring, enjoy the local scenery
on your country walk along the river, visit long lost relatives and more, while the rest of
the group are on the river. Taking photos from the bank seems to be a good pastime, and it is
beneficial for paddlers to see what they have paddled. Then, after a long day, you can help
feed the brutes when they return hungry, cold and tired. You could even try kayaking or
canoeing yourself and join us on a trip as an Isis Canoe Club member.
Experiences make prizes
The aim of Isis Source is to have fun and learn through play. There may even be some odd,
perhaps very odd, prizes to win for 'first swim', 'longest swim', 'lost paddle',
'scariest incident', 'funniest incident' etc. on trips. In addition to these fun awards
and experiences, Isis Source also provides life skills such as learning to be part of a
group, leadership, map and compass reading, building new friendships and developing trust.
