Isis Source

Isis Source is a training section of Isis Canoe Club for all paddlers qualified to ISIS Intermediate or “British Canoeing” 2 star award and above. Our aim is to encourage the development of skills required to enjoy the sport within a framework of safety and fun on flat, moving and white water.

Working under the ISIS umbrella our format is designed to encourage individual paddlers and families with children 10 years and above, who are at the above standard and want a bit more excitement with a good chance of getting wet! While mainly kayaking, the experiences and training will be across a range of craft including white water kayaks, sit-on-top kayaks, sea kayaks, touring kayaks and open canoes.

Isis Source will develop your paddling skills and help you progress from where you are now to wherever you aspire. We will also be focusing on being part of a group, leadership, map and compass reading, building new friendships and developing trust etc. You will be trained by BCU qualified coaches to BCU standards and follow a progressive program through the season developed to suit your needs. Best achieved if you plan to attend all sessions.

So what can you expect?

Club nights are Tuesdays: starting with a briefing at 18:30 and off water 21:00. We will primarily focus on the BCU 3 star scheme with the emphasis, as always, on having fun. The sessions are planned to ensure everyone has the opportunity to develop as well as refresh any existing skills. Training is across many diverse craft and it is essential that all paddlers are able to exit them safely when on the river. Capsize and rescue drills and skills will therefore be practised on a regular basis by all members.

Those achieving the skills required will be entitled to continue to progress through winter months with ISIS Source and link in with the main club.

The club will provide a selection of modern boats, paddles, personal floatation devices, helmets and spray decks. Licence fees to paddle British licensed rivers and canals are also included in the membership.

Each paddler will need to provide appropriate personal kit for themselves to suit prevailing on water and weather conditions (see club requirements in FAQ) and footwear suitable for paddling (not bulky trainers). In addition you will need to bring a towel, a complete change of clothing, plus a warm drink for the end of each session.

To take part in the Isis Source section of Isis Canoe Club you will need to be a member of the club. The family membership includes up to two adults and two children (minimum age 10) all living at the same address (please see membership section for more details). Additional children will incur an additional charge per child.

Please note that for safety reasons the programme is subject to change at the discretion of the coach.

ALL MUST be willing participants.
